Fading Stars and the Heavy Air Around Us

A blue bird kid with eyes mostly glued to the floor

Ever since I was a kid, I enjoyed the company of music. I recall I was glued to my brother’s CD player with Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” or listening to my father’s vinyl collection, specifically Selling England by the Pound by Genesis left a mark on me, I gave my own meaning to everything, my own kid emotions and understanding of world.

My teen years were obviously reflected through my outstanding performance of my Emo phase, you know, hair over the face, studded belt and everything a bit torn – but just enough so it looks like I’ve been around the block a couple of times. This ultra chic style was soon mixed up with punk overtones, you know, leather jacket with anarchy on the back – classic. All this charade while mainly listening to Bob Dylan, thou to be fair, he is super punk and emo as well – you can tell by the eyeliner and pasty white face in the 70s.

In 2009, a friend of mine (known now as Smedja) handed me a USB key that changed my life, it contained the basics of the American Hardcore and some post hardcore bands like Touche Amore and La Dispute. During the same period a couple of us decided to do the most natural thing for punks and metal heads – we started a band that actually recorded a DIY album! Shocker, I know, such a super bad ass crew – love them to bones.

In the house where I grew up there was always a guitar somewhere this only fueled my desire to express myself more, I wanted to filter out the noise that was always present in my head. So, I started learning, thou soon realizing I was actually way to lazy to properly learn, so I just kind of thought myself a few chords and suddenly I was pretending to be super deep, a poet, you know, emo punk with an acoustic guitar who wants to sound like ol’ Bobby D.

In the period from 2011 and 2013 I must have wrote more than 300 songs, mostly just as a form of some kind of therapy to soothe my mental health problems – reflecting my imagination into songs. Inspired that maybe someday someone might hear one of my songs and feel better about themselves and know that they are not alone in this world. Internally screaming Ljubljana is the Ocean with my close friends – I guess an homage to the band Margot and the Nuclear so and so’s.

My compositions became more and more influenced by the complexities of life and with the help of a dear friend Damian, I started introducing my petty acoustic arrangements with more dynamics, words reflected by simple chord changes. I became to grasp the importance of song arrangements, no longer just blocks of text. My lyrics became more focused, creating charecters that sometimes reseble overly dramatic cartoon depictions of my life.

“Bought a box of sparklers
Now I’m lighting them all alone
Every spark that flew was from my heart
I’ve been burning fuel to get to you.

Lately, I’ve been shooting for stars
Burning satellites across the sky

We are heavier than air”

During the period of 2014 and 2016 I mainly spent almost all my free time behind the computer, inspired to create more complete arrangements of the songs, tackle different genres of music and try to teach myself enough to produce the songs that I was writing.

In 2020 I bought my first camera, as I always wanted to make short movies, music videos and make general documentation of events or life around me.

In 2021, over a casual conversation with a member of Kamra, I got an opportunity to record my first music video. An homage to the genre of Black Metal.
